Leucorrhoea
Leucorrhoea or whites is a condition in which there is a whitish discharge from the vagina.
It may be thick and viscid, and foul smelling if it is caused by some infection.
In physiological Leucorrhoea, the discharge is normal due to excitement or other factors like nervousness. Such a discharge need not be worried about.
This problem is associated with the woman's reproductive organs. The condition can last for a few weeks or even months. If you ignore this problem, it can become chronic at later stages.
But it is significant if it is blood stained, profuse, foul smelling or with changes in its colour. Usually the normal secretions are slimy and slightly sticky. It is something like nasal secretion.
This is increased by prolonged ill-health, anxiety, neurosis, sedentary occupation and standing for long periods. If not treated properly, this infection may continue for months or even years and may spread to other areas of the genital tract.
A chill causes inflammation of the womb and vaginal membranes. Other common causes are the displacement of the womb and unhygienic conditions which attract bacteria to the geniral organs. Leucorrhoea can also be classified as cervical leucorrhoea or vaginal leucorrhoea i.e., according to the place of its origin - cervix or vagina.
Causes of Leucorrhoea
The comman Causes of Leucorrhoea :
- The other common causes of leucorrhoea are displacement of the womb and unhygienic conditions which attract the bacteria to the genital organs
- Injury to the vagina or cervix or womb during childbirth, abortion, or excessive sexual indulgence can cause erosions and infections with discharges.
- Non hygienic measures, especially during menses, can create infection and cause leucorrhoea
- Diabetes and anemia can cause leucorrhoea due to weakened immunity.
Symptoms of Leucorrhoea
Some comman Symptoms of Leucorrhoea :
- Pain in the lumbar region and calves
- General tiredness due to loss of vital fluids as discharges.
- Frequent headaches
- Irritability and lack of concentration in work due to consciousness of discharges.
- Constipation
- Burning urination and frequent urge to pass very little urine.
- Intense itching
- Soreness and burning in the genital tract.
Treatment of Leucorrhoea
- The patient should sit in the tub, keeping the legs outside, after taking a glass of cold water. The head should be covered with a wet cloth. A cold water bath should be taken after this treatment. For the wet girdle pack, a thin cotton underwear and another thick or woolen underwear are required.
- The thin underwear should be wrung in cold water and worn by the patient. The thick dry underwear
should be worn above the wet underwear. If the patient feels chill, she should be covered with a blanket.
- Fresh fruits or fruit juices only should be taken between meals. All forms of white four, white sugar, fried and greasy foods, condiments, preserves, tea and coffee should be avoided.
- The patient should lie with the hips slightly raised above the body and a special nozzle applied for this purpose should be oiled and inserted slowly into the vagina. The flow can be regulated by the small value at the nozzle. In severe cases of leucorrhoea, the douche should be done daily.
- It is a small, creeping herb that contains the alkaloids brahmine and herpestine is effective herb for the treatment of leucorrhoea.
