Alveolitis - Cause, Symptoms, Treatment of AlveolitisAlveolitis is an inflammation of the walls of the alveoli, the air sacs in the lungs. There are two forms of the condition, allergic and fibrosing alveolitis. Allergic Alveolitis is caused by an allergic reaction in the alveolar tissue to particles that are inhaled in breathing. A few haours after inhalation of the allergen, the sufferer may feel weak, tired and short of breath and have a cough. Fibrosing Alveolitis has no apparent cause, though it may be associated with rheumatoid arthritis. Here inflammation leads to the formation of fibrous tissue in the alveolar walls, this in turn may cause emphysema and bronchiectasis.
